The internet defines writing as:

writ·ing ˈrīdiNG/ noun 1. the activity or skill of marking coherent words on paper and composing text.

As foreign and strange as this definition sounds, I agree with it, as does everyone who contributed to this blog post.

In this blog, I will be comparing the answers of Stephanie and Cameron.

My first question asked to the group was, "when do you write?" I got many answers that were similar, however, the two most different ones were, "I write usually when there is a large political issue i need to process through or when my experiences don't match up with what I know to be true-- like when my mom had cancer and she was the healthiest person I know. Or when I'm feeling compelled to problem solve. Creating something really help." [Stephanie] and "Any time of the day" [Cameron] Based on this first question, I see that girls seem to be able to express their writing more as far as when they are writing.

My next question was, "What do you write?"

[Stephanie] answers, "Poetry, mostly. Sometimes personal narrative."

[Cameron] answers, "I write out my prayers, and Lamentations, I write letters to friends, and ideas for stories."

When asked what they like about writing, I received similar answers.

[Stephanie] answers, "I like writing for many reasons, the most appealing part of writing to me, though, is that it is a form of expression, it allows you to 'dream your life away' and create a fictional world that you are deciding the next move. It is freeing."

[Cameron] answers, "I like converting and consolidating ideas to a physical medium where I can see my ideas more clearly so that I can go back to exactly what I was thinking and so that I can build upon good ideas from the past that would otherwise be forgotten. It is a freeing way to get my thoughts to a physical medium."

"It is freeing"

Both gave this answer that writing is freeing, to which I agree. Writing allows people to escape reality, and like Stephanie said, "Dream your life away."

When asked if composing and writing were the same, I agreed with both, though they gave different answers. I believe that this question is based on your own personal opinion and on your own writing.

[Stephanie] answers, "Composing, writing... it's all a process to me. I suppose composing would have a slightly different connotation and include a planning phase. Which my best writing typically does include me making a goal and working and redrafting to accomplish it. But I wouldn't be picky about which word, but I would never say composing because that sounds pretentious."

[Cameron] answers, "Yes, composing is writing because you are creating something new."

This post was fun, not only did it stretch me to think more about writing, but it also stretched my friends to think about their writing.

Thank you to Stephanie and Cameron for offering their words and answers!
