Remix is a very popular word these days, that is just thrown out. There are so many examples that is makes it easy to get your hands on an example of a remix in a matter of minutes. A close friend and peer of mine recently wrote an article about remixes she saw in the movie, Pitch Perfect. (Check it out HERE!)

Remixes, however, are also a challenging subject. Through many laws and rules falling under plaigarism, fair use, and copyright. Some people, are good at making a remix. For example, this video:

This artist was able to successfully take a work by singer/ songwriter, Ed Sheeran, and put his own twist on it, therefore, avoiding copyright, plagiarism, and fair use. However, if I were able to try and do this, I would do it very unsuccessfully. Another example of remix is in the television show, The Office.

This line, was originally taken from the song, "Bang the Drum All Day."

Laws like copyright and fair use play a large roll in remix. It is difficult for a non-experienced "remixer" to be able to successfully pull this off. Personally, I think remixing is scary. I think copyright laws are scary. I think fair use and plagiarism is scary. For example, over this past summer, I make a video that featured small clips of my life. I think this is a really neat and effective way to show your life in a way people are interested in seeing. I wanted to post 60 seconds of this video to my Instagram, for my friends and family to see. However, I had music in the background that did not belong to me. I did not remix it, it was just the raw, and real song. I was not sure if simply giving the artist credit was enough for it to be ok. I considered changing the song and attempting to make it my own, but again, I wasn't sure if this would be enough. I say all this to explain, copyright is NOT COOL! DON'T DO IT! Plagiarism is NOT COOL! Make sure you are covered if you consider doing any of this, including remixing.

These are my thoughts and opinions. Take as you wish.

Until next time,

Juliet. out.

This is an example of a video I made two summers ago! Check it out! I am proud of it.
